Girl Scouts of all ages can work on rank requirements to earn petals and badges. Our programs have been developed for individual troops which allow scouts to participate in our programs any time during the year. With so many programs to choose from, the Science Eye will keep the scouts busy throughout the year! Two leaders are always free, parents and siblings are also welcomed to join in all the activities. Call us to set up a date and time for your program. |

What's so special about....? |
There’s something special about everything in nature and every one of us! Daisies will take a little nature hike to see all the magnificent things in nature and have an opportunity to discuss what is great about it (even if it is a pesky mosquito). Then they will discover what is special about each of their troop members – in a fun and creative way of course! Location: Nature Park |
| |
|
|
I think I can, I think I can, I think I can |
Girls will first go on a hike to learn about some of the animals and plants that live nearby. Then they will do some activities that require them to act out in front of the group. As wildlife biologists, park rangers and scientists know, having to talk about their ecosystems and their discoveries isn’t easy. It takes a lot of courage to get up in front of people to talk and do things. Daisies will take courageous steps performing for the group. Location: Nature Park |
| |
|
|
Concerns for Creatures |
| Daisies will get creative making animals and plants out of reusable materials. Not only will they be doing their part with the "R's", but they will also learn about caring for the environment around them while being considerate to people as well. This activity will also prepare them for being pet owners (if they aren’t already). Location: Any |
| |
|
|
Helping Hands |
| We all need a little help now and then. While taking a nature hike, Daisies will participate in “trust walks”. They will learn to not only be helpful to the one blindfolded, but to trust the girl leading them. If the opportunity presents itself and we are lucky enough to have other visitors in the park, the girls will get a chance to help the visitors understand the value of that ecosystem and the importance of not littering (under adult supervision of course). Location: Nature Park |
| |
|
|
Do you have what it takes? |
It is tough being a wildlife manager – they have to be fair not only to the people they serve, but to the animals they protect. Daisies will learn about being honest and fair to our natural environment and each other by walking the beach learning about the animals and people that live there. Do they have what it takes to be a wildlife manager?
Location: John U. Lloyd State Park |

|
Guess who? |
Each Daisy will bring something that is special to them to share with the group (it needs to be something that is small enough to fit into a lunch sack) – but don’t tell, it’s a secret! This activity will get the girls guessing and having a blast. Girls will understand that we are all alike, even though we are unique individuals. Would you share your favorite item with your “sister”? Location: Any |
| |
|
|
How can I do my part? |
Daisies will get a chance to see the wondrous world around them. While taking a hike around a natural area, girls will sketch, like a scientist, the neat animals and plants that are being affected by litter and pollution. At the same time, they will clean up the litter so that all living things can continue to grow and girls of the future can enjoy the same natural area. Location: Nature Park |
| |
|
|
RRRR you eco friendly? |
| Reduce, Reuse, Recycle = Respect! Everyone needs to remember the R’s. Daisies will go on a scavenger hunt looking for specific plants, animals and habitats. They’ll understand that the animals only use what they need, they are not wasteful. The girls will then think about what they use at home – what are they wasteful with? What can their family do to do their part with the RRRRs? Location: Nature Park |
| |
|
|
Who's in charge here? |
| When we hear a siren, we think of three things: Police, Ambulance or Fire Truck – if we are driving, we pull over (which shows respect). Daisies will discuss the different things we think about when we hear certain sounds or even smell different scents. They will learn about how animals use their sense of hearing and smell, sometimes for food, sometimes because their parents “just say so” (for a good reason of course). Do we use make sounds, without words, that mean anything? Location: Any |

Me, Myself & I |
| All girls are beautiful, unique, exciting and have something to offer to the world. This program is all about sharing themselves in a creative way! Daisies will create their own personal journal, decorating it with style. They will then record information about themselves – they can keep track of their likes and dislikes over time, as they grow from little girls to women. Location: Any |

Hobbies |
Hobbies can include doing things, making things or collecting. If your Brownies like collecting things, this program is for you! The girls will become paleontologists digging for fossils. They will learn how to identify the fossils they find, as well as what it takes to take care of their collection and add to it.
Location: Any; Cost: $10/Scout; Requirements: 1, 2, 3, 4, 6 |
Make it Eat it |
Just because you need it for energy and survival, it doesn't mean it can’t be fun! Brownies will have fruitilicious fun making fruity concoctions and growing their own herbs. Food tastes great, but it is even better when you grow it yourself! Girls will not only create a recipe book to write or paste in ideas that they find, but learn to keep track of what they put in their concoctions to duplicate later – and to share with friends. Who knows, maybe there’s a Rachael Ray in your group!
Location: Any; Cost: $10/Scout; Requirements: 2, 4, 5
|
My Body |
You don’t have to be a doctor to understand your body. A matter of fact, you know your body better than anyone else! This will teach Brownies to be more aware of their body. Chocked full of fun activities, girls will also learn how to take care of their bodies. Be prepared, wear your tennis shoes and comfy clothes – this is one active program!
Location: Any; Cost: $8/Scout; Requirements: 1, 3, 5, 6, 7, 8
|
All in the Family |
Family is the people you live with, learn from, have fun with, help and love – and you do the same for them. Sometimes they aren’t even related to you, but they are still family! Brownies will make creative journals to track their family history, record things about themselves and create a plan to keep their family healthy and strong. Everyone needs to bring some small pictures and small items that remind them of their family. Remember, it’s family that matters!
Location: Any; Cost: $8/Scout; Requirements: 1, 2, 3, 5, 6
|
Animals |
There are thousands of different species of animals in the world, ranging from over 60 feet long and as tiny as needing a microscope to see it. With this many different kinds of animals, no wonder it takes so many scientists to study and care for them. Brownies will learn about various species of animals – how they adapt to their ecosystem, what they need to survive, and how to take care of pets and injured wildlife. Girls will have fun creating their own species of animal and teaching us how to care for it!
Location: Any; Cost: $8/Scout; Requirements: 2, 3, 4, 5 |
Colors & Shapes |
We see colors and shapes everywhere we look – especially in nature! Brownies will let their creativity flow while crafting yarn habitats and “catchall” bowls. Making new colors to use and designing fun new shapes is just the beginning.
Location: Any; Cost: $10/Scout; Requirements: 1, 3, 5, 6 |
Earth & Sky |
The Native Americans believed that Mother Earth and Father Sky provided everything that they needed. Brownies will explore the earth and sky to see what it gives us. Among the many activities, they will learn how sedimentary rocks are formed and how fossils are preserved by making their own sedimentary rocks and fossils.
Location:John U. Lloyd State Park; Cost: $8/Scout; Requirements: 1, 2, 3, 5, 6 |
Earth is Our Home |
Earth is our home, but it also belongs to the plants and animals that were here before us… and don’t we want to leave the earth a better place than when we found it? Brownies will learn how to keep our neighborhoods greener and cleaner as well as understanding that we are connected, so we are all affected. They will make earth friendly cleaning agents, terrariums, signs and more – hopefully if the weather cooperates, we can even make a yummy snack!
Location: Any; Cost: $10/Scout; Requirements: 1, 2, 4, 5 |
Eco-Explorers |
After a scavenger hunt hike, Brownies will discuss the animals that they found and the signs of animal life around. The girls will understand what all is needed for a healthy ecosystem and how they can do their part. In their self-created journal, they will act as ecologists sketching their findings, recording their notes and make decisions regarding the future of the environment.
Location: Nature Park; Cost: $8/Scout; Requirements: 1, 4, 5, 6 |
Movers |
Wind can be useful or destructive. Brownies will discuss the various uses of wind – good and bad. They will have blast making balloon rockets, pinwheels and more that are powered by the wind. When it is all said and done, the girls have better respect for the importance of wind and how to have fun with it.
Location: Any; Cost: $10/Scout; Requirements: 1, 3, 4, 7 |
Numbers & Shapes |
If it weren’t for “shapes”, everything would be a blob – but wait, isn’t a blob a shape? Brownies will discover shapes all around them. While on a hike they will locate simple and complex shapes in all they see, recording their observations in their decorated journal. Girls will learn about the cycle of the moon, the different shapes the moon takes, and the importance of understanding the different moon shapes. They will also use shapes and numbers for other fun activities!
Location: Nature Park; Cost: $8/Scout; Requirements: 2, 4, 5, 6 |
Outdoor Adventure |
Brownies will see how fun it is to be outdoors! Get your hiking shoes on because we’re going on an adventure. Girls will look, listen, feel, taste and smell their way through the great outdoors. Don’t worry about packing a snack, the girls will make their own. Don’t worry about getting lost, the girls will learn to use a compass. So no worries, they’ll be prepared for anything!
Location: Nature Park; Cost: $10/Scout; Requirements: 1, 3, 4, 5 |
Plants |
The clothes you are wearing. The food you eat. The car you ride in. The air you breathe. What do they all have in common? PLANTS! We NEED plants to survive. Brownies will learn how plants produce the clothes, food, oil and oxygen we use every day. They will study different plant and even grow some of their own!
Location: Nature Park; Cost: $10/Scout; Requirements: 1, 2, 4, 5 |
Science in Action |
The topic of science covers too many things to cover, but it sure is fun discovering what science has to offer. Did you know that most discoveries were from science experiments going wrong? Brownies will participate in different areas of science, creating beautiful butterflies, blowing up balloons without using their mouths, make weird gooey gop and search for things that have been invented to help us.
Location: Any; Cost: $8/Scout; Requirements: 1, 2, 3, 4 |
Senses |
Everyday we use our five senses – this will help Brownies hone in on their senses by testing and utilizing their different sense. They will learn how animals also use their senses to find one another, make their way home and make their way out to the ocean! You won’t want to miss this “SENSational” program!
Location: Any; Cost: $8/Scout; Requirements: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 |
Water Everywhere |
The planet and your body is made of about 75% of what? Everything needs this to survive… Some plants and animals live in it… Yes, you guessed it – WONDERFUL WATER! Brownies will become hydrologists studying water – the hydrologic cycle, the different kinds of, what is found living in it, and how we (over)use it.
